Materials Engineer

Job Description

Foundation Alloy is seeking a materials engineer to join our development team. You will be working closely with a talented and collaborative group of engineers and materials scientists to develop new alloys optimized for advanced powder manufacturing techniques. Your tasks will include:   

  • Operate research and development equipment; be a contributor to the production of new alloys and novel components for additive manufacturing
  • Establish and iterate through design of experiments to better understand material composition and process variables
  • Create and characterize metal samples using a variety of methods, including X-ray diffraction, microscopy, and mechanical testing, and communicate testing status to various stakeholders across the company
  • Be an owner and contributor of process related improvements, tasks, and results

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree Materials Science and Engineering or related discipline, or equivalent experience gained elsewhere, and 2+ years of work experience
  • Strong understanding of metal structure/property/process relationships  
  • Ability to perform a wide range of materials characterization techniques to quantify mechanical, thermal, and other physical properties of metals
  • Ability to iterate quickly, pay close attention to detail, and independently see experiments through to completion
